Re: Album Art Tagger 4.9 - Updated 27/02/2011
I almost had it figured out. I thought I would set album art tagger up to extract to "C:\My Music\<Artist>\folder". This actually works perfectly except for one minor flaw...album art tagger apparently uses the "Album Artist" field to identify the artist instead of the "Artist" field.
So what's happening is....let's say for example I have this structure
My Music
Artist A
Album A (This is an album which this artist appears on and in mediamonkey the "Album Artist" is "Various Artists"
What happens when I run album art tagger is that it wants to extract the artwork for Album A to the "Various Artists" folder instead of the "Artist A" folder, because it thinks "Various Artists" is the artist. I hope that makes sense....and how the heck can I make this work right???

Does it matter?trixmoto wrote:I'm not sure how you'd know, once inside MM, that it was started up by a script?

So if you have an album with Various Artists - let's say 15 different artists on a compilation album. Would you want the album art for that compilation album copied to each of the artist folders for each of the 15 artists on that album? And what if there is already a folder.jpg in the artist folder because they have other albums in your collection. I guess I still am not clear how this could work for you.Guest wrote:I almost had it figured out. I thought I would set album art tagger up to extract to "C:\My Music\<Artist>\folder". Re: Album Art Tagger 4.9 - Updated 27/02/2011
This is all based on extracting to C:\My Music\<Artist>\folder
Okay....as the script were to run through my library it would extract the folder.jpg to the artist level folder. Let's say the first folder comes across is "Adema", this folder has 5 albums in it. Based on the way the script already works it will extract a folder.jpg for the first album, and then mark the other 4 as duplicate and not extract them....this is acceptable to me, a folder.jpg has been extracted from Ademas list of albums to the Artist level folder. I don't care if the first album art is extracted or the last album art is extracted, although I assume it will always be the first as the script will mark any others from that folder as duplicate.
Now let's say the next folder it comes across is "Korn", this folder has a bunch of albums in it but the first one is a covers compilation album, it contains songs by a bunch of different bands. There is only one korn song on it though and that's the only mp3 in this folder, the other artists songs would be in their folders and therefore different instances that I don't have to worry about yet. Either way, the way Album Art Tagger is going to handle this situation is by seeing that the "Artist" tag which as I mentioned it actually pulls from "Album Artist" is Various Artists and therefore will extract the folder.jpg to "C:\My Music\Various Artists\folder.jpg" which is an issue because I don't actually have any artists in my entire mp3 collection who are named "Various Artists" that is a tag I reserve for the Album Artist section of my id3s and only use on compilations, soundtracks, etc.
To sum up, the script would handle what I am trying to do perfectly and in a manner acceptable to me if it were pulling the Artist name from Artist and not Album Artist.

Re: Album Art Tagger 4.9 - Updated 27/02/2011
That all makes sense to me. But would a compilations album be contained in the Korn folder, or are they contained in a folder called "Various Artists?" If the latter is true, I can't imagine the script would extract the album art to an entirely different directory. And what if that directory didn't exist?
Anyways, I don't think the script can do what you are asking. The script is meant to handle the art for albums, not the art for artists. Although you might be able to request that function from the script's creator, Trixmoto.

If a compilation album has 15 different artists, each of those 15 tracks are in the specific artists folder under that albums name. I do not have a folder in my mp3 collection named "Various Artists", although when I try to run album art tagger, it does create a "Various Artists" artist folder and puts a folder.jpg there on the tracks I've mentioned (ones that have "Various Artists" as the "Album Artist") because it's extracting a folder.jpg to an "album artist" folder instead of an artist folder.
I know for a fact the script does exactly what I need it to, I just need it to do what it already does but up one directory.
Or you're correct and the script won't do what I need it to because it unfortunately extracts art under the wrong tag. Maybe options for <Artist> and <Album Artist> could be added to the script.

No further input needed. I fixed my problem by modifying the script.
Just for anyone who's interested....
I opened the vbs file did a search and replace for "albumartist" and replaced with "artist".
Extracting to C:\My Music\<artist>\folder now does exactly what I need it to.

Good! I am glad you figured it out. And thanks for sharing the fix in case anyone else is interested in doing the same thing.

Yep no problem. And just an update, it ran exactly like I wanted it to.
Every artist folder now has a folder.jpg which appears to be the first album from the artist's folder.

I'm glad you got it working the way you wanted. The script was deliberately designed on the assumption of album artwork (hence the name "Album Art Tagger") but I can add in a track artist mask field in the next version, if this would help.

What happens when you select this option:
12. Rename linked artwork to folder.jpg
What will happen if I have multiple .jpgs linked to a file?
Will it be folder1.jpg, folder2.jpg etc. or will it only rename the front cover image (which is what I hope for)? Sometimes I have two front cover images. Will this matter?
Oh and another question: how can I extract artwork to folder only for folders without any artwork? I checked tagging inconsistencies and magic nodes but there seems to be no such node available.
Thank you

1) I can't remember, but try it with a couple of tracks and use the confirmation screen to see what it's going to do, that's what it's there for.
2) I don't think there's a mode for this at the moment.
