Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
I've found a bug in release id saving and fixed it, and also prepared an installer to manage updates automatically. Here's V 1.7.1 as installer:
Download and Install V 1.7.1
For those who want to do it manually: Download the file, rename to zip, unzip and get the DiscogsAutoTagWeb.vbs.

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
What an incredibly useful script!
Thanks to RobertSmith I finally got it working (had the same firefox/IE issue).
I made some alterations for myself but I am a novice VB programmer.
Could somebody please tell me how to get the following from Discogs:
- Catalog number (I got the checkbox, dim and HTML stuff working)
- Searches only from items in my collection
- Searches for CDs only
- All images from a release
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!
Tinus.

Hello Tinus,
Catalog number: I've been thinking about adding catalog number into one of the custom fields. If you can send me your updates, i can merge them into next version (so that everyone can make use of it).
- Searches only from items in my collection: I'm not sure if this is possible but you can search from the web site for the album, get the release id and search by that release id for loading that album directly for tagging.
- Searches for CDs only: That function has been removed very recently. As I'm using the script, I feel like I need it. I'll look for a way to put that back.
- All images from a release: Currently I can't use images for tagging and I don't know the reason. Once I get it working I'd love to look for it.
Please let me know if you have other ideas.
Have a nice day.

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
It's not working... It keeps "searching..." and doesn't show the results.
I used Let's v.1.7.1 installer.
Tried restarting the program... got a new discogs key... etc.

Do you use proxy or direct connection? It uses IE proxy settings. Try opening the url below in IE to see if everything else works fine.n3skk wrote:It's not working... It keeps "searching..." and doesn't show the results.

Do not forget to replace <YOUR_API_KEY> with your own api key.

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
The URL worked fine. Don't understand why is this happening.
I have TagScanner and it doesn't have any trouble connecting to discogs and making the search.
MediaMonkey showed me some results once I clicked Auto-Tag from Web but when I type a different search query it keeps eternally "searching...".

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
So basically when there's no results it doesn't tell you. Good interface.
Someone needs to put an effort into this...

@ns3kk,
As you may have noticed someone is putting an effort into this. For free... and with lots of result as far as I'm concerned.
If it's all that obvious and easy, please feel free to mend the code yourself. If you can't then please keep your sarcastic remarks to yourself. I'm sure I speak for the other thread-members if I say that your attitude is uncalled for and out of place here.
I also still have a few issues where sometimes no results are returned, but I don't blame the author of the script for anything. It's already a lot better than the standard Amazon searches, which return far less results and are often wrong!
Mario.

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
I'm at the second year of Informatics Engineering and I probably could code this script, but guess what, I don't have time. The previous versions of this script worked BETTER than right now, so yeah... people are doing the work for free but I don't like the results of this. If you don't want the feedback ok, I will ignore this thread and continue to use TagScanner which is freeware and works perfect with discogs.
Let you're probably going in a direction but, there's lots of things you need to improve.
Peace...

We all think that it needs more effort, but i disagree with you that it used to work better. I assume you've never used previous versions this script before, because it never warned for an error / not found album. I have my own ideas and users of this script on this thread have many ideas. We'll try to work to make it better and you're free to decide using it or not. Thanks for the harsh feedback. Have a nice day

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
I think no-one ought to be complaining about the hard work going on here. If anyone has feedback to give, harsh or not, say it soberly.
My feedback is that, I have a lot of problems tagging the track numbers accurately, and often i have to manually search to get the correct release.
I think someone else mentioned, but how about mapping the catalogue number to one of the custom fields?
I can't believe modern tags don't have a dedicated field for cat no. Poor.

Re: Discogs Auto-tag Web Search
I am working on a new version which will save include catalogue number (completed) and add several filters (country, year and media type) for search results, support for selection of tracks to use for tagging and several other things. I'll let you know.shanghai_ultra wrote:I think no-one ought to be complaining about the hard work going on here. If anyone has feedback to give, harsh or not, say it soberly.
