Galaxy Nexus MTP syncing m3u playlists

Post by abaez »

With the Galaxy Nexus having no mass storage mode (only MTP), I'm trying to sync my playlists to the device in the m3u format instead of the pla format that happens now. I looked everywhere in the options and could not find anything. Is there a way to make the playlists sync as m3u instead of pla using MTP for the GN?

Thanks

Were you able to sync MM4 with your Galaxy Nexus? If so, would you mind sharing some tips? I can't seem to figure out how to make it work.
I would be very grateful.

I just got my Galaxy Nexus today.

Just tried a straight up sync by selecting the desired playlists in MediaMonkey and hitting auto-sync.

Seems to have copied the songs over fine and by loading up Google Music they do appear.
However the playlists don't appear to be setup correctly.

When exploring the device in windows Computer\Galaxy Nexus\Internal Storage\Playlists
The playlists in *.pla format are there but contain no data/text. So these aren't m3u's then?

Will explore further to see if i get any progress.

I am surprised to hear that all of your songs synced over just fine. I wonder what I am doing wrong?
Do you use MTP mode on the GNex?
Did you use the d_WMDM.dll plugin in MM?

Sorry I can't offer any advice on the m3u playlists.

+1 for a Galaxy Nexus owner who's not able to transfer playlists (the song themselves sync fine, but there's no playlists!).

Any tips on how you got your songs to sync? Settings?
It would be much appreciated.

[EDIT]
It still syncs, but just takes ~30 minutes to actually start. Before it actually starts syncing, it looks like it's hanging on "Preparing list of files". The file transfer is excruciatingly slow. One 145 Kbps VBR mp3 takes up to an hour to transfer (this does not qualify for auto-recoding, and should not take nearly that long regardless).

Also, the ".pla" playlist files do transfer over, but as 0 byte empty files (why aren't they .m3u??). Since they're empty and not .m3u, obviously Google Music / PlayerPro / PowerAmp don't recognize them.

Nevertheless, the slow/non transfer issue may be the fault of the device, not MM, since many other GN users have issues transferring files from GN to PCs(TiBackup files, for instance).

My setting on MM 4.0.2:
Plug-in File used is d_WMDM.dll (default).
Summary tab: none selected
Auto-Sync list tab: The playlists with songs I want are selected
Options:

[*]Auto sync: Everything checked; Exclude Folders: \Ringstones, \Alarms, \Media, \Video
[*]Auto conversion: (shouldn't matter)
[*]Destination: (respective directories under \Music\ & \Movies\)
[*]Tagging: Only selected "Use only the first Genre when multiple Genres exist"
[*]Playlists: Everything's checked except Organize..., Force..., & Use Linux...

Oh yes, that was my experience too. It hung on preparing files for a looong time. And I eventually gave up. But I do recall that I watched it sync one song one time, and it did take a reallly long time. :o

Thanks for your reply and for the tips! Hopefully Google will release an update to the device and OS to address this issue. And hopefully it will fix the problem.

Whoa everyone, sorry I forgot about this post. Some answers:

I had this issue too, all of the .pla's are showing up as 0 bytes, but when you actually look at the properties they work: http://i.imgur.com/R2UuD.jpg. I have no idea why they show 0 bytes though. They do get recognized fine in both the default music player and PowerAmp: http://i.imgur.com/1ClfS.png, So I wouldn't really worry about the 0 byte thing.

To everyone who is having issues, I don't know what to say. Is your GN showing up as a device in MM? I didn't do anything fancy, and it is indeed using d_WMDM.dll.

The sync IS a little slower to startup, but once it gets going it's normal speed. I have read a ton of things about people syincing with the GN and really not sure why it works for me. Normal speeds and all that. Note that I don't have auto-sync on, and I am just doing the default directory setup in /Music/ and /playlists/

I read that alot of the issues are with image files, so if you have .jpg album art in the directory maybe don't sync those? All my album art is embedded in the file and I have no .jpg's in my folders.

I still haven't figured how to do .m3u playlists though :(.

Thanks for sharing your tips. I guess you are just lucky!

I'm not syncing jpg's. I do not have auto-sync on. The only thing different is that I am syncing to a directory other than the default. Maybe I will change that to see if it helps.
