Can't Burn to CD
I've tried to burn tracks to two different CDs multiple times and all times I get a message saying the burn failed and an error code 40900. I'm using MM Gold, version 4.0.3.1496.

Re: Can't Burn to CD
Unknown by me theres been lots of fixes one way to find out is go in to the beta test forum then look in the thread that rusty announces the new beta versions in, find the post with the mm version number you have. Then in every post after that one check all the links to the ventis tracking pages where rusty says which have been fixed, you will find if it has been that way.

Ok, I downloaded the latest version and installed it. Tried another CD and got the same error message. I'm getting tired of making coasters (it's getting expensive, too).

Or just make a debug report and send it in to support.

Re: Can't Burn to CD
It's definitely a software problem. The CDs I'm using are 50x and my drive can go up to 24x so media isn't the problem. I had already tried lowering the speed even lower than 24x and got yet another coaster (they also make fairly decent, albeit expensive, frisbees for chihuahuas). I got ticked off and used Win 7's native CD burning software and that worked just fine so the drive isn't the problem either. The curious thing is MM reported that my playlist would span six CDs which is even more curious since all my tracks are mp3s. Using Win 7's native burner, it all easily fit on two CDs (I suspect MM was trying to make a music CD) and it was easy and simple to do. I rarely make mp3 CDs (just for my truck and I have plenty now) and never make music CDs any more plus, when I replace my truck next year, I won't need to make either ever again (the newer trucks can play off a USB flash drive) so I'm just not going to worry about it. I've got better things to do than waste my time trying to figure out how get MM to work right at this (nor should I have to waste time doing so; it should work correctly without needing a degree in programming to make it do so).

Re: Can't Burn to CD
Sorry you had so much trouble, its rare some one has that much trouble with cd's and they cant replicate it on their systems. I've had and have errors they cant fix but not in the cd burning area. I still am thinking it might be a cd drive firmware update is needed its also possible mm uses a different file then what is needed on your system.
I remember going from win3.1 to win 95 all the cd drives had to be replaced with new ones because the drivers were non compat with the old cd drive's hardware, and again with xp all scanners and printers had to be changed when coming from win98.
Could be doing it again, with changing to win 8,

Re: Can't Burn to CD
I'm still thinkin' it's MM, especially since others reported they fixed the problem by disabling on the fly. By the time I had read that, I had already accomplished what I needed to do using Win 7's native burner.rovingcowboy wrote:Sorry you had so much trouble, its rare some one has that much trouble with cd's and they cant replicate it on their systems. That's one of the reasons I'm not going to downgrade to Win 8.rovingcowboy wrote:...

Re: Can't Burn to CD
I just did a cd burn on my xp with mm 4.0.6.1501 it worked yet in here but playback has some issues with cache road blocking when trying to play the cd rom i just burned its really bad stuttering and jerky sound when switching to next song on cd, that can only be cache is not emptying fast enough to get next bit from the disk without causing the jerky sound.
Now if mm is able to do something to fix that i dont know but it is annoying.
But i figure the cache might be dumping on really large mb's of data burns, thus making the coasters. Or chiawhoawhoa frisbies.
Down to win 8 why how could you even think that of ms, why they worked hard at making the new ops to be better then it could be, so your putting down the best ms has to fix in the future.

Re: Can't Burn to CD
4.0.7 1511 I am having the 4090 problem as well and have wasted 3 cd's this morning - have been able to burn with standards Windows 7 but am frustrated by this MM error.
I see many people suggest turning off the On The Fly Burning but for the life of me I do not know/cannot find where this might be. So if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great thanks.
Also I have seen reference to an error message list at Opti Drive Control website (http://www.cdspeed2000.com/errorcodes.html) - is their software what I need if the On The Fly Burning trick does not work (assuming some kind person might direct me to that option).
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Re: Can't Burn to CD
HIGHVIEWJC the on fly option is shown on one of the panels you are shown when you are setting up the burning of the cd / dvd, i think it is on the how to burn panel?

Re: Can't Burn to CD
rovingcowboy - thanks for the prompt reply and indeed you are correct.
By clicking that option off (On The Fly) the CD did indeed complete successfully.
However when I view through explorer I see a set of files Track01 through Track13 plus explorer is showing a whole set of files (the real names of the files I was copying) saying they are ready to be written. There is a screen shot here: http://screencast.com/t/aHZfAqFHqrF.
I took the cd out and re-inserted and then play via MM which it did ok but was kind of disappointing in that it did indeed show the Track 01 etc names rather than the real ones.
I am happy that I have produced the CD via MM but nevertheless a little worried that something is still not quite right. I took a picture of the final frame/panel in the Burn process where I clicked the On The Fly to the off position. Maybe there is something there that is suspicious. http://screencast.com/t/sFFYAvM1kZ1
Would you expect the files names on the CD to be the generic names rather than the real ones?
Thanks again for rapid response.

Re: Can't Burn to CD
Mediamonkey can only write the cd text if that option is selected AND the cdrom drive you have supports the writing of cdtext, most newer ones dont if they are cheap in price, some will and more expensive burners will more likely have that ability.
I suspect yours does not. As for the listing in explorer i dont know why win explorer's burn cache would show what you burned in mm, maybe jiri or ludek could answer that.
