When I Change A Track's Name, It Becomes a Dead Link

Post by criticaljay »

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search, but my terms seemed too broad and there were a ton of results, but didn't see anything that looked like what I want.

Every time I change the name of a song for what ever reason it becomes a dead link. Why is this and how can I prevent it from happening? I know how to edit them quickly, but it is just annoying that MM does this.

Do you have File Monitor set to scan continuously? (File > Manage Collections > Library > File Monitor)

Be more specific. Are you talking about track name (title)? File name? Path name?

track name (title), when I change that. Say I import files and it gives me the track name title of 02 - Eleanor Rigby and I delete the 02 - so the song is just tilted Eleanor Rigby it becomes a dead link and I have to go into files to edit, dead link and then search for missing files

Also I'm on Windows 8.1 64bit most recent version of MM

Do you have Auto-Organize (Tools > Options > Auto-Organize) enabled? Does the Path give a clue as to why it becomes a Dead Link?

I do have it enabled
File format is artist\album\track number - artist - title

Could this be the issue? I think it happens most times when there is a number in the title and I remove that number

I meant the actual Path it shows in MediaMonkey. Auto-Organize could be the source of the problem, although it would be strange as Auto-Organize updates DB when moving files.
