Because it works fine for my needs and because I bought a gold licence and didn't feel like an upgrade was worth re-investing, I'm still on version 2.5.5.998.
Now I'm building a new machine and I'm considering buying version 5 but I have 16 years' worth of database and don't want to lose it.
I can see upgrade instructions for version 3 to version 5, but I can no longer see upgrade instructions for version 2 to version 3, which is what I'll need to do as a pre-cursor to upgrading.
Are there version 2->3 instructions around anywhere?
TIA
Upgrade instructions for version 2 -> version 3

No: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... r-windows/
Generally the recommendation is the same. If you can run database maintenance (sorry not sure if this is in 2.5), then install the new version on top of the old version.
Old releases: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... diamonkey/
So I'd
1) Maintain in 2.5
2) Install 3 on top
3) Maintain in 3 (File > Maintain Library with complete optimization checked)
4) Install 4 on top
5) Update to 5
Maintaining in 4 is likely not necessary. MediaMonkey 5 installs separately be default and will update the MediaMonkey 4 database of a regular (not portable) MediaMonkey 4 install. Do keep all database copies created along the way as this will allow you to return to a step if necessary.

Re: Upgrade instructions for version 2 -> version 3
Thanks.
There definitely used to be instructions. I tried all the Google-Fu I could, but I can't find them.
I thought there was something convoluted about the 2->3 procedure.

In case anyone else should need them, they've been archived. Would be really useful if MM left them on the site though. I'm sure I'm not the only one who hasn't upgraded - MM2 works fine for nearly all my needs.

Re: Upgrade instructions for version 2 -> version 3
Me again!
I'm actually attempting the upgrade now and it's not going well. The instructions actually say to install v3.x over the top of v2.x, but since I can't find a download location for a version 2, I've just done a clean install of v3.
I copied my version 2 MediaMonkey.mdb onto my mapped NAS drive and did -
So then I tried copying the old mdb file to the default location and running again.
It just does the same, i.e. nothing visible. Sometimes these things do a lot in the background and then copy the results across when they're finished, but I can't even see anything MediaMonkey-like in the running processes.
I've now uninstalled and reinstalled with the old mdb file in the default location but still nothing seems to be happening.
Any help please?!!! I really, really, really don't want to lose my existing database.

Hi,
Are you trying to upgrade on old or on New PC?
I haven't upgraded from 2.x to 3.x in years and I ma not sure it is possible without using Windows XP eg. on old PC.
First you need to have fully working MM 2.x on the PC with restored library to be able to upgrade further as MM2.x uses completely different database format than the rest of newer MM versions.

Re: Upgrade instructions for version 2 -> version 3
Hi Peke,
Thanks for looking.
Old PC: Windows 10 with the v 2.5.5.998 and my database from the last 16 years
New PC: Windows 10 installed with v3.2 and a copy of above database
Is there somewhere I can safely download v2.x? The earliest version I could see here was v3. There are download sites that have older versions, but I'm very wary in case they come packed with extras.

Hi,
Hmmm, are you sure that you have 2.5 correctly working on Windows 10? I was not successful on installing MM 2.5 on Win 10 x64
Please open Support Ticket or send me PM and I will send you safe version.
