Gapless playback no longer works since build 1230 [#21519, #21621]

Hello everyone,

I recently updated to build 1230. Since then, gapless playback no longer works.

In the audio settings, the audio transition is set to gapless and the equalizer is activated.

I have sent a debug log for this. The ID is: CADB4HRAIZ. The log was created shortly after the transition from one title to the other.

Either I accidentally put this post in the thread Silent playback on some files with gapless transition enabled or it was moved there by a moderator.

However, my problem is different to the one described there. I have therefore started a separate thread.

In my case, the playback runs normally, only a tiny pause is inserted between the tracks. This was not the case in the previous builds and it does not change when I change the settings mentioned above.

The issue occurs when gapless playback is enabled and the fix probably causes your current issue with a tiny pause between tracks.

no, I have not. As far as I understand it, the above problem only affects Android 15 devices and I'm still running Android 13.

The issue occurs when gapless playback is enabled and the fix probably causes your current issue with a tiny pause between tracks.

I also think this is the most plausible explanation for my current problem.

I just upgraded my phone from a Pixel 6 to a Pixel 9. With the new phone, sometimes going to the next song works fine. But more often than not, it goes wrong. Sometimes it switches song but the volume cuts off. The way I fix that is to either start the track over or skip to the next song. Other times it stops playing completely at the end of the track. Skipping to the next song resolves the issue until the end of that song. I tried disabling some background tasks to no avail.

Finally, I installed VLC on the phone as a test. It works perfectly.

I've been using MMW and MMA for over a decade and find it a great way to keep my music organized. Running VLC on my phone is an OK workaround, but I much prefer MMA.

Any suggestions.

What version of MediaMonkey for Android are you using?

The problems associated with Options > Playback > Audio transitions:Gapless should have been resolved in build 2.0.4.1230 (as described above, build 1231 is rolling out to Beta subscribers, but the changes in 1231 aren't relevant for users on Android 15).

If you're on build 1230/1231 and you're experiencing volume cutting off, can you share a log of this?
As soon as the bug occurs, submit a debug log (in the menu, tap Help > Send logs) and share the log ID here.

TKS. I have 2.0.4.1230 queued up to in my Play Store right now.

So with this update, my Android 15 phone should be able to do gapless? Or should I change that to "None" as well.

Yes, the fix to silent playback on Android 15 (released in build 1230), made gapless playback in Android 14 and lower devices not work correctly. A fix is already created and will be rolling out shortly.

A quick test of the latest build 1231 shows that gapless playback is now working again on my device.

To clarify: 1230 will solve gapless issues on A15. 1231 is needed to fix a bug in 1230 that affects gapless on pre-A15 devices.

I have recently updated to build 1243.

Unfortunately, the gapless playback again no longer works in this build. A short pause is inserted between the tracks again. In principle, this is the same behaviour as I described here.

I have created a debug log shortly after switching from one title to the next. The log ID is CTNKV8L7AW

Yeah, we accidentally re-introduced this in the 1243 beta

It's fixed in 1244 which is currently rolling out on the beta channel. Thanks for the report!
