Look up metadata during CD load/rip process [#21913]
I've just come back to MM after a few years away and like all the updates. I set my PC to handle CDs inserted by "ripping in Media Monkey" as the default option.
Most of the time things go to plan but if I insert a CD that initially isn't recognised, I get the "convert files" screen with \unknown\unknown etc. Then a pop up window appears "look up audio CD meta data" often with the correct album and track info. If I press OK, that window disappears but the "convert files" window is still there but with the \unknown\unknown file names.
In the folder window, I can see that the CD drive now recognises the album from the downloaded tags, eg J:\[John Doe - Greatest Hits] but I must first cancel the convert files window then reselect TOOLS/RIP AUDIO CD to get the correct tags to file name as the imported tags don't overwrite the \unknown info in that window. If I just pressed OK to the convert, I'd have to search and tag the tracks after ripping.

Thanks for prompt response.
Build is 2024.1.0.3113. MM is already open and running as I rip several CDs in one session.
PC running W10.

Can you please retry with the latest MediaMonkey 2024.2 release?
However, you're interacting with a Windows (Auto-Play presumably) dialog when this happens?spherehopper wrote: ↑Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:43 pmMM is already open and running as I rip several CDs in one session.

Re: Look up metadata during CD load/rip process
I turned off the autoplay in Windows then inserted several discs to try. All of them showed the CD data in the left hand tree and the pop up windows for converting files now doesn't appear unless I select TOOLS/RIP CD.
I don't know whether I've been lucky with the CD choices today and they had all already been catalogued or there is a hiccup when windows autoplay interacts with MM.
Re: Look up metadata during CD load/rip process
Presumably it's Windows Auto-Play, I don't use it and haven't seen the issue you report.

Re: Look up metadata during CD load/rip process
I see the exact same thing and I am on 3178 (this has been happening for at least a year). It is pretty obvious what the problem is – the Rip dialog opens before the return of the information from MusicBrainz. This is almost certainly a “worker thread” synchronization problem. I have been meaning to open a ticket and will do so “eventually”.

Re: Look up metadata during CD load/rip process
Thanks guys. Yes, same as Edgar. If I turn off autoplay, this behaviour stops.
As I had 100+ CDs to rip from the my collection, I was trying to speed up my workflow using autoplay but this "feature" ended up getting in the way.

Can you please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643
This will help a developer analyze why this happens on your setup.
