After updating itunes no phone will connect.

Post by ZeroG »

I got a new iphone 17 pro max. it connected but when I copied files to it they did not show up. MM activity wheel spun like it was doing it's job and then stopped. I thought the uploads were done but nothing uploaded.
Restarted MM and it suggesting updating itunes.
I updated itunes.
rebooted.
Now the 17 is not recognized and my iphone 16 pro max which had connected many times before is no longer recognized.
I checked task manager and itunes is not running in the background.
Help please.

Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you running? Are you sure you have the desktop version of iTunes installed, and if so does iTunes still recognize the phones?

Thank You for your reply.

I am running the latest version of MM. I tried to update and it assured me I have latest greatest.
2024 2.0.3184

I simply updated the itunes I have used with MM for years. I cannot tell if it is the desktop version. But as you suspected my iphones will not connect to it.
How do I get the desktop version?

It's in the linked in the Knowledge Base article shared above.

You may also want to update to the latest MediaMonkey 2024.2.1 release.

Downloaded and installed itunes from your link.
Error during install: Apples mobile device service failed to start. I tried twice
ignored error and let itunes finish installing.
Started itunes.
Went to services on Win 10 computer
Tried to start service but again it failed.

Of course iphone is not recognized by itunes. I've hit a brick wall.

Try uninstalling all things iTunes, then reinstall again. Presumably you used the 64 bit installer?

I did exactly that. Even used the appwiz.cpl then searched for apple and removed all apple programs. I reinstalled three time. Twice with the download from your link. Once with an apple download. Same result. Neither itunes or MM recognize my phones. Before starting this process MM worked fine with my iphone 16. Sure wish MM could work independent of the virus they all itunes.

Also .... please note. The link to the apple site to download the desktop version in your knowledge base does not work. It goes to a defunct web page.

Which link, both the 64bit and 32bit version download links work for me.

If iTunes can't see the phone the problem unfortunately falls outside of the scope of MediaMonkey. I'd try a different cable as well as different USB ports, otherwise contact Apple support.

Once iTunes can see the device, MediaMonkey should too. If not we can try to troubleshoot that.

Lowlander,

The OP may be referring to Step 3 & 4 at the very end of the MM KB article being broken.

3. Uninstall iTunes as described 'here'
4. Download iTunes from 'this page' and install it

Those do not work here, but as you said above, both the 64bit version and 32bit version links do work just fine here.
