tag info lost
I have discovered an issue where a track that is currently playing in the playlist loses important metadata after restarting MM.
Steps to reproduce:
Start playing a track in the playlist.
Close MM while the track is playing.
Start MM again.
Result:
The same track has lost the following metadata:
Album
Artist
Album Artist
Track Number
The artwork and title remain, however the title is redirected to "Unknown".
This happen now 8 times out of 10.

Can you please provide the full build number? The last 2 digits are missing.

Re: tag info lost
I tried to replicate without success on my system, but there is few things I am curious about your settings that maybe can show similar behavior.
To be exact:
1. Tools -> Options -> Library -> Tags & Playlists and see if Update Tags on Edit is Enabled
2. Make sure that tracks from your library have updated Tags and tracks in Now Playing have updated tags (Select Tracks -> CTRL+S -> OK)
3. Are you using Scan Folders on startup and that MM updates track Info on scan (Tools -> Options -> Library, Update tags on rescan [Enabled] + Only if Time stamp changes [Disabled])
Reason why I ask is that if tags are not correct in files and MM rescans it it can overwrite existing with incorrect ones and also if tracks are not in library MM can reload tags from files on restart and use incorrect tags, exhibiting behavior you describe.

And you still observe same behavior. Strange. I know it is time consuming, but as we can't replicate and want to get to bottom of your issue, can you please do simultaneous Screen recording and full debug log creation (see how at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643) so that we see exact steps and behavior first hand?Maka wrote: ↑Sat Dec 27, 2025 11:47 am Thank you for answer.

Re: tag info lost
I'm glad I found this already reported. I'm having a very similar thing, I think it's the same. I believe it's been happening for this version and POSSIBLY the previous version. I'm on the newest I think, 2024.2.1.3213.
Upon a first startup of MM in the morning, the FIRST song I listen to is zero-ing out random fields. It always removes the volume leveling information, and sometimes removes the "Artist" field. If I check the files properties, those fields are indeed blank. BUT, if I close MM and reopen it, the fields reappear populated as they were before. But it's not *just* a visual glitch, because how do I explain this.. I have my library sorted to "List by Album" so it shows the picture on the left, and the album, sorted by Artist. When I play the first song of the day and it Zeroes out that Artist field, after a couple seconds, it shifts that song somewhere else, since my library is sorted by it.
EDIT: All three settings are as you stated in a previous comment. What exactly does Ctrl+S do? Should I do that on a track that's had its metadata wiped? I'll have to try tomorrow morning, haha.

Re: tag info lost
If the file tags are affected, Tools > Edit > Update tags would save the Library values back to the file.
I've not seen this happen. Does it happen each time you restart, or is it random?
Please capture this issue in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643
This will help a developer analyze why this happens on your setup.

Maka, Haxxor,
Is Options > Player:Volume Levening > Automatically analyze volume of unanalyzed files enabled?
(I'm wondering if that feature is somehow causing an issue--though even when that's enabled, I can't replicate the bug).
Thanks!

Re: tag info lost
It is enabled. And the files are analyzed.
Hold on, I just booted up the computer and MM for the first time today, let's see what happens:
Hmm, didn't do it this time. I feel like it does it.. ehh, 50% of the time. I was halfway through an album yesterday, and when I started the music today, I just double-clicked on the song that was already yellow (ready to be played). I'll test tomorrow and try hitting space to start, or try starting a different song- one other than the one that is yellow to start.

Re: tag info lost
OK. We still haven't managed to replicate this, so if possible, please replicate using the debug build and share a debug log with us--that'll help us understand what's going on in your environment.
Thanks!
-Rusty
p.s. In case you're not familiar with the process of generating a debug log:
- Install the debug version of MediaMonkey: https://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/MediaMon ... _Debug.exe
- Download the DbgView application from: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin ... /debugview
- Run DbgView and make sure that Capture > Capture Win32 is enabled
- Run MediaMonkey and try to reproduce the bug with a small set of tracks in as few steps as possible.
- You'll see logs being generated in DbgView (if not try running DBGView as Administrator)
- Save the log messages from DbgView to a file, compress it (ZIP, RAR) and send it to us via the helpdesk. If the file is too large ( > 2MB) then upload the file to a free file hosting service (e.g. DropBox, ufile.io, MediaFire, ...) and share a link to the file.
Thanks!

Re: tag info lost
First thing I would recommend is repair of MM database. The behavior you describe is strange, inconsistent, and does not make much sense, there is no tagging on playback or app closing. I guess the audio file on the disk is untouched (check it really miss the main tags in Explorer) and the problem is elsewhere. Try File - Manage database - Rebuild database. Do you reproduce it after this step?
