I'm really getting annoyed with the fact that database can't be shared between multiple clients on the same network. i've waited years, decades even and still this restriction persists and is ruining my setup
so my setup is...
NAS server with files, all indexed by MM. All perfectly tagged, key/bpm detected.
Mediamonkey desktop - the best music management app on windows. always has been. nothing but praise for it, there's literally no competition that comes close. my collection has been managed in it forever.. i have everything working through autoplaylists, which allows selection of mood, energy based on last heard, skipped etc. this results in rich playlists of fresh listening material, genuis
MMA on my pixel phone, synced to the playlists and in integrated in the car with android auto. syncs back stats to MM, keeping the autoplaylists bang on and extending the concept perfectly.
Wiim Ultra/Pro Plus/WiimAmp Pro - using the wiim app, i can extend the functionality of the library and playlists into each room, perfect!
NOW.
i want to have this available without needing to run my monster PC 24/7. Ok, so I could run it on a VM on my home server, that would work. but then the main application is on a VM. I can't do the bulk of the organisation, playlist creation etc on my main pc. that's a pain. I spend a lot of time at my main pc, this is where i make music, listen to music and WANT mm desktop. I also have a pc in my garden office, where i work from. I frequently want to run MM desktop here too, as during the day i will add new music and want the same functionality at the 2nd desktop. I simply can't have that because of this ancient single user database it uses. If only it was in SQL Server or something that could actually support multiple clients.
I've spent hours looking for an alternative, there isn't one as MM is the best there is. Am I in a minority here? interested if anyone else has this problem and how you've fixed it.
MM is the best there is. but this irks me and i need to find a way of working with it.
