New user! Best Practices for multiple devices?

Hi there! New user- was so impressed on my first use I purchased a perpetual license!

Here's my use case- can anyone recommend how I should set this up??

-Multiple Windows PCs
-Music folder on OneDrive
-the windows instances mount the onedrive as a drive letter
-MM on all PCs
-Potential use on Android also?

What I want to do is have a shared MM database. I see talk of a server out there; can't really tell how far it progressed. Anyhow, what I want to do is (for example) add music on PC "A"; then re-scan the folder (MM doesn't "watch" a folder, does it?) and then any of my other PCs will have that newly-added music showing up in MM.

Am I asking too much?? Thanks!

Hi,
If you would like to use cloud storage on multiple PCs I would like to suggest you setup all on one PC and then copy DB to all others.

Note: MM license can be activated on up to 3 own PCs.

Also if all PCs are in same network I would suggest that you better invest in NAS that would work as Local Cloud server and keep you in full control of your own Media. Maybe it is more expensive in start, but trust me it is worth more on long run.

Please let us more details not what setup you would like to use and we can see the best suggestion for it.

Thanks for the reply! I'm likely overthinking this, as these days additions to my library are fairly rare.

I do want access while outside the home, so that's what made me think onedrive would be best instead of a LAN solution.

I have two laptops (redundancy yo!). I sometimes to charity DJ work so that's why I want access from them (although Serato also gives me some level of insights there). I'm also in a perpetual state of migrating from my desktop win10 machine to a new win11 desktop (it's only been a year and I still haven't finished!)

I guess what "perfect" would look like to me is a cloud-like experience- say I rip a CD into my library on my desktop, then I could immediately go to my laptop and that addition would be reflected there. But that's probably not the mission of MM!

That is what I use now:
1xNAS 24TB (4x12TB drives in 2xRAID1 setup)
1xMain Desktop PC (For RIP, MANAGE, TAG, Organize, ...)
6xMobile devices (MMA installed for whole family members, sync with Main PC)
2xLaptops (Wife and older kid)
2xSmart TVs for DLNA playback (From Main PC)
3xAndroid STB for connection to HiFi/Projector/BT Speakers/...

Process is that on Main PC I RIP/Tag/Check new tracks -> Auto Organize onto NAS Destination -> all others can Access Main PC for Playback and Copy files locally.

The Best for me would be that Main PC Library is shared and locally cached Automatically on all devices as soon as Main PC update it (Would be perfect to be stored on NAS as Server DB), but those features re planned for future MM versions.

Cloud is tied to Internet and external services I do not control and I want full control (including external access).

Only downside it takes bit time to setup, but well worth afterwards.

I have Setup my NAS in 2012 and just checked only Google monthly price for same storage I have on NAS would be 750USD, so imagine how much I already saved. Even I pay 80USD for 2.5Gbit/500Mbit Internet ISP connection per month to have decent external connection.

Thanks Peke! Sorry for the radio silence. But I've been contemplating all of this, and the net is that I now own a UGREEN NASync DXP480T Plus with 2x4TB in a RAID-1 config. Now I need to move all of my music off of OneDrive and onto the NAS. Is there a MM safe way to do this? Or should I just copy it all manually, then re-initialize the MM database and start fresh with a new scan? Anything else you can suggest before I get too far in and say "dang, I should've done THIS instead of what I did!"

Hey, that one do not look bad at all. Bit expensive as you went M.2 solution (with current prices) I would rather went with https://ai.ugreen.com/products/ugreen-n ... as-storage and could buy 4x 8TB WD Red Plus for same price of 2x 4TB M.2 also you could have 2x m.2 256GB Cache drives. But Its small form factor is better especially if you do not have dedicated Network rack and space in house.

I would suggest that you Move/copy whole One drive in existing structure to NAS and then Select all Grayed traack in MM to use File -> Locate moved missing to pair paths to your new NAS. Also I would Avoid using Mapped drives (even MM 2027 auto translate mapped drives to UNC paths for new scans) and just use UNC paths (one starting with \\<NAS NAME/IP address>) and you are done.
