WASAPI Exclusive Mode AUDCLNT_E_DEVICE_IN_USE (0x8889000A) on 96kHz to 44.1kHz FLAC gapless transition

Post by sahukumarsonu »

Hi everyone,

In MediaMonkey 2024 (build 3054) on Windows 11 with a USB DAC (Topping D90SE) configured in WASAPI Exclusive mode (Event driven mode enabled, 200ms buffer, Pre-buffer on track change enabled), gapless playback between tracks with identical sample rates works fine, but transitioning from a 96kHz/24-bit FLAC track directly into a 44.1kHz/16-bit FLAC track throws an AUDCLNT_E_DEVICE_IN_USE (0x8889000A) error in WASAPI output when attempting to re-open the IAudioClient stream within the 150ms gapless window.

Code: Select all

[00014820] 19:24:52.104 MM5 [Player] Gapless pre-buffer next track: 02-Movement-II (44100 Hz, 16-bit)
[00014820] 19:24:52.118 MM5 [WASAPI] ERROR: AUDCLNT_E_DEVICE_IN_USE (0x8889000A) on sample rate switch
[00014820] 19:24:52.120 MM5 [WASAPI] Failed to re-open IAudioClient stream within 150ms timeout
Diagnostic log & WASAPI config screenshot (spaced per new-user link policy):

Is there an INI setting in MediaMonkey configuration to add a short stream-release delay (e.g. 250ms) before re-initializing IAudioClient when Exclusive Mode switches sample rates, without disabling gapless pre-buffering for same-rate albums?

Thanks!

Hi,
I would advise you to try latest MM 2027 as New sound engine better handle such cases, problem is most likely that DAC internally do not handle format transition eg. do not compensate 96 -> 44.1 but possibly locked in 96. Exclusive -> Per File setting can do that on some sound cards. I personally do not recommend exclusive setting as only thing you get is actual lower lag and almost no (my own personal tests I explained in Forum before do not rectify enabling Exclusive over limits it imposes). Also in Exclusive setting it is known that Windows sounds (even when disabled) can temp lock DAC interrupting MM (and all other apps).

To repeat myself I doubt I would hear any difference with Exclusive on and off on my headphones Audio-Technica ATH-M70x that I use ATM Focusrite Scarlet Solo 4th Gen for daily use and TEAC US 1x2HR for DAW.

With all above said I would be more than interested to hear your finings an thoughts (music you listen) because DAC is not only thing that can influence the sound enjoyment.
