Creating a playlist with newest music in Library

Post by Al »

Hi all
I want to create an auto playlist that contains the newest 100 songs I've added to my MM library. I can't see how to do this. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Cheers

'date added' is not an available sort field in MM 2.5; I've already asked for it someplace, so maybe we'll get it in 3.x

You can always do it manually (select 'accessible' tracks, sort on added date, select the first 100, 'send to playlist' <newest playlist>, but that is not what you/I really want.

You can sort on 'last played', and select the 100 from that.

From what I can see the "Last Played" field doesn't seem to get synchronised from my Creative Zen Vision M to my Media Monkey Library. So only songs that I've played in MM have a value in that field. Is this expected behaviour? It makes the last played field of little use to me.

MM3 does allow sorting by 'date added' in AutoPlaylists.

Synchronising =back= into MM is rather iffy, even for 'real tag' data (yes, on some players you can actually change the genre or artist I believe .. at least the rating). 'Last played' is probably stored in a database on the Zen (i.e. a separate file, not put back into individual tags anyplace) which makes the chances of synching it back about zero.

That's why I like Rockbox on my iAudio M5L .. keeps a list of everything I played, in rather easy to handle text format, which I can load back to the PC.

However, as someone said above, it seems MM 3.x will allow you to sort on last added, so try that.

Be aware that it will do a complete resynch on the Zen though, because the 'what is on the device already' list is stored in the MM 2.5 database and MM3 doesn't yet know how to convert it.

Enter a value in the Year field for each song. Then you can create an autoplaylist selected by >= "specific year" I use songs rated from 3 to 5 stars. 2 stars are kids songs for me. 1 star is Old Time Radio.

I select Rating >= 3 stars and Year >= 2005. In my case that selects my 88 most recent songs.

The System Playlist, Recently Added Songs, shows songs auto-added by date. You could create a Playlist from that as well.

I'm sure you are receiving some great tips, however if you use the Magic Nodes script then you will be able to create a note based on the date added. I have several based on the date added, here is one of them:

Date added by Genre\<Date Added|sort order:desc>\<Genre>

By using Magic Nodes, you can get the information you need in the format that you want (in most cases). If you want to use it just go to the scripting section and look for the topic "Magic Nodes". There are also alot of other good scripts there.

Excellent information, thank you. Question though: does it autorefresh itself?

Yes it does, everytime you into that node, it will be with the most recent information. The Magic Nodes is one of those great tools that is a must have for MM. I never realized how primitive my library was in Musicmatch until I switched to MM.

Out of curiosity, do you lose 1/2 ratings in MM after a synchronization?
