Got a beta version of MMA (I think), sync process is now much more comprehensive, good work there.
I was stymied though for a while because MMA couldn't find the sync server.
Got to the sync help text at https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... ccessible/ which was fairly clear, but one suggestion:
Having checked through the guidance I found that I was missing the "rule allowing incoming SSDP connections over UDP Port 1900". I've never seen that interface and so I stumbled my way through it via guesswork and lucked into having MMA then work. My suggestion is that you provide a bunch of specific information about creating the new rule settings in the native Win10 (my case) firewall widget, because that interface will be too much for many trying to fix that problem.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to using the new sync interface some more.

Hi,
Yeah, Windows Firewall is fairly powerful, but lack GUI. Therefor I use https://www.binisoft.org/wfc to provide me exact function.

Hi Peke,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately that link took me to an electronics equipment site which didn't appear to have anything relevant to configuring windows firewalls, or any software at all for that matter.
Cheers

Re: MMA Sync Help Wiki
Hi,
I found this old entry in my drafts and thought that I should put it in, because it does touch on some of my struggles getting MM5 syncing with MMA, with suggestions how you might help users get through a particularly esoteric problem. Trying to parse the terminology in the help text wasted a lot of my time.
Thanks for the suggestion to use a different Windows Firewall program, but no. If I were a network engineer and was comfortable with all of the esoteric settings in there then I would, but I'm not and I don't want to have to learn all that stuff just to get sync working. And most of all I really don't want to go replace the default windows firewall with something else that will probably have its own idiosyncrasies and which Microsoft themselvers won't be testing against for their future updates.
So, here's some specific areas in which the help text requires update for those who are not network engineers:
Further to that point, the point 5.3 "Ensure that Network discovery is enabled on your Windows PC" uses an old Control Panel widget that is unavailable from the Windows 10 Settings function chain, and can only be readily accessed via searching for "Advanced sharing settings" in one of the Settings search boxes. Users should be pointed to that necessity.

- For the line "Ensure that there’s a rule allowing incoming UPnP connections over the TCP Port configured in MMW", there is no means of checking for a UPnP connection in the Protocols and Ports tab of the Properties of a Private MM5 Inbound rule. The rule that is configured there basically allows any connection from any protocol, so I'm having to assume that this will include UPnP.

Re: MMA Sync Help Wiki
This help text is still broken. Hours of wasted time chasing "enable UPNP on Windows Firewall" indicated using the obsolete Control Panel widget to "Turn on network disovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing" should be sufficient. Hasn't helped. Plus, I can't find a way to enable port forwarding on the new router. Crazy!

Re: MMA Sync Help Wiki
Hi,
Each router have its own settings. First you need to determine if you are behind CG-NAT [http://checkip.dyndns.org/] (99.99% are now behind it due the ISP policy and that External IP addresses are expensive eg. 20+ USD ) and compare with your Router WAN IP address (they should be same and if not you are most likely behind CG-NAT).
As about Port Forward you can start here https://portforward.com/ it is not simple thing especially if you do not use your own router, but depend on ISP one for your local network (not to mention it is security risk to use ISP router because ISP usually have full remote access to your LAN and its devices)
As for Firewall you can like me personally use app https://www.binisoft.org/wfc or similar ones like https://github.com/tnodir/fort
If you are still uncertain how open Support Ticket and we can get into more private details not for public eyes.

Got it working. What I eventually found that I had to do was:
- In the windows PC that runs MMW, change the wifi network profile from Public to Private. When the router was replaced, the new router had created the new wifi channel as Public, and apparently Pubic doesn't allow sharing.
- In the windows PC, I found many instances of MediaMonkey rules in the firewall, presumably from having installed many instances of MM beta builds over several years. I deleted all of these MediaMonkey rules and then reinstalled MM to get a single set of rules in place in the firewall, and then it worked.

Re: MMA Sync Help Wiki
Yes, MediaMonkey should have informed you first time it founds that setting, but it does not nag you about it.
You are right if you want to share anything on LAN Private should be used

Multiple firewall rules should not affect sharing as ALLOWED rules have priority in Firewall, Windows Unfortunately do not remove conflicted rules, so junk can pile up. WFC also have Option to reset to default rules.

Re: MMA Sync Help Wiki
Yet another failure to communicate from MMA. This time it was the presence of multiple inbound MM rules in the Win10 Firewall and - strangely - an absence of outbound MM rules.
I used the Windows firewall widget's Advanced Settings screen to delete the inbound rules and restarted the computer. When I fired up MMW again it asked me if I wanted to set the firewall exception to which I said Yes. MMA was immediately able to see the MMW media server and I was able to do the sync again.
