Can't Change Genre From List

Post by KevinB656 »

Hello, I'm having a problem with changing genres in 2024.2.0.3154 (Gold) on Win11. If I right-click on a song and hit properties the usual properties dialog comes up. I click the down arrow on genre and the genre list comes up. I click on an item on the list, but the new genre is not accepted; the old one remains. The only way I can change the genre is by manually typing it in. I can easily make changes using the drop down lists for other fields such as artist. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't reproduce this on 3184 which is the final release for 2024.2.0, can you please update to it and try again?

Same on 3184. Maybe I'll try going back to an earlier version and see if that helps.

I'm unable to reproduce, does it still happen after a PC restart? If so, please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643

This will allow a developer to analyze why this happens on your setup and fix this in a future release.

I restarted a couple of times and even uninstalled and reinstalled MM, all without success. Then on a whim a few minutes ago, I closed a couple of open programs and it started working. There must be some sort of a conflict. Let me keep an eye on this for a while and see if I can isolate the problem. If so, I'll report back. Thanks for your help.

Okay, I have determined that this issue occurs whenever the MM window is in any state other than maximized or minimized. It is reproducible 100% of the time. (My earlier post about closing some programs solving the problem should be disregarded.)

Hi,
I used latest version from https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 86639&sd=d and could not replicate.

here are steps I tested:
1. Opened track properties
2. Used TAB to get to Genre
3. Pressed DOWN ARROW -> List Shows
4. Selected Desired Genre -> ENTER
5. Genre Stick

Okay, thanks. Not a big deal because I can easily go back to maximized or minimized window to restore normal behavior. I'll continue to try to sort it out. I'm sure there's some weird combination of apps I'm using that causes a conflict.

Ok, but keep us posted if you stumble on something interesting that fall out from your assumption.

I have the same problem. I am running 2024.2.1.3213 Gold on Windows 11 (fully updated).
This problem did not used to happen, but I cannot say when it started.
It occurs if MM is maximized or windowed.
It occurs if there are other programs running or just MM and a web browser.

Scenario 1:
Click on an artist in the Contributing artist list
Click on any track
Click on artist, then click on the down arrow
Select an artist from the drop-down list, it will not populate the field
The same holds true for Genre and 2 custom fields.

Scenario 2:
Click on an artist in the Contributing artist list
Right click on any track, click properties
Clicking the down arrow for any of Artist, Album, Album Artist, Composer or conductor and selecting an entry from the drop-down list will populate the field.
Click on Genre and select an entry from the drop down list and it will NOT populate the field
Click on the Custom tab
Click on the down arrow for a custom field
Selecting an item from the drop down list will NOT populate the field.

Thank you for the quick response
I installed debug version
I ran the view program
I ran mediamonkey
I created and saved a log file
However trying to create a ticket does not work for me. I click on New Ticket, a rotating spiral appears and no further progress is made.

You may want to try to log out, clear browser cache and login to Support. Does that work?

Thank you again for the quick response.
Yes, clearing the cache seems to have worked, Ticket #6539 has been created.

And now for something completely different.
All of a sudden, cover art (stored in a tag and viewable via properties) will not display when I select an artist from the contributing artist list.
Should I create another ticket, or is there an option I have failed to find.

Where exactly does it not display, because when viewing Artists it's not using the tags (MediaMonkey uses online lookup of Artist images). When viewing Albums it will use Artwork from the tags (what's shown in the Properties > Artwork tab).
