Importing files, Add/Rescan repeatedly adds entire music collection

I'm just starting with MM and am confused as to how to import files to the library. I have indicated the path from which the files should be imported, e.g C:\Users\USER\OneDrive\Music\Library\Jazz but every time I have tried this MM has imported every file in my PC music library, which I don't want. I want to import my files Genre by Genre. Am I missing something? Any help/suggestion greatly appreciated.

Note that setting a location to scan doesn't remove files from other locations from the Library. Could this be the case?
