Can I increase a tracks volume?

I thought I read this on here somewhere but can't find it now. Nearly all my tracks play at the same volume. I don't like using the volume levelling as it seems to reduce the volume on all tracks instead of increasing it on the one quiet track.

Is there a way I can bump up the volume manually on a quiet track. This is where the actual volume of a track would be useful instead of its +/- value.

You can use Tools > Level Track Volume and make sure you set a value that works for you in Tools > Options > Volume Leveling for Target volume for leveling tracks. This might affect audio quality as the audio is modified and isn't recommended.

I also believe there is a script (See Addons forum) to modify the Track Volume when Analyze Volume is used. You can increase the volume overall by modifying Target volume level for playback in Tools > Options > Volume Leveling. This would allow you to use Volume Leveling which has no effect on audio quality.

I've been bitten by levelling before. I had a couple of songs that were quieter, burned a disc which automatically levelled the tracks and had to have the car stereo up full to hear them! And that was on a burn level of 96db! I have also had to delete values given to some tracks because MM wanted to lower their volume by 12db when all I wanted it to do was leave those and raise 1 by 12-15db odd!

I couldn't find any info in the odd-ons section and there was no script listed so I have posed the question there and see what comes back.

If you have just 1 track that is too quiet, you can simply edit the track volume of that particular file. In the detail track list, press F2 while in the track volume column.

Note, if you change the value too much, you risk adding distortion.

as far as burning, normally you would not want to level volume as this reduces all tracks to about the same average level. If you want it loud, then you burn without leveling option and it will be the same value as the original rip.

If the above does not work there is another option but it involves using software other than MM. If you have an audio editing program such as WavePad, Audacity, or SourceForge (or one of the many others available) you can increase the volume in that program and the song will play louder on all media. If you are new to audio editing then probably a good one to start with is WavePad. It is the most user friendly program in this area that I have found. Not cheap but there are free versions floating around out there but you will have to search for one. I am using a free version (I think I found it on CNET). Oddly enough the info on CNET said it was shareware but when I went to install it it indicated it was free-ware. Supposedly there is a free-ware version on the publishers website but I was not able to find it.

You could possibly download a trial version of an audio editor and just tweak your tracks volume. However I suspect once you get a a taste of editing tracks you may become addicted. Ever love a song but there is a small section you would rather not have there,,,,no problem, just edit it out. Or how about the song you just love but its too blinking short (in your opinion),,,,again no problem, simply select a portion (or the entire song), and blend it into the track somewhere, vola, an extended version is born. You can also clean up damaged or noisy tracks etc etc.

on the use of other programs i 'm all for that.

but one thing i've noticed not all mother boards and on board sound chips work alike.

while this one here plays the songs with loud volume levels raised to -1 in audacity's amplify feature.

the jukebox use's a motherboard that's sound chip does not like that loud when there is heavy bass on the song and will make mediamonkey stop playing the song and gray it out.

so do the rasing with that info in mind so you know what you might need to undo if the song grays out after you raised the volume in the song file it's self.

Thanks guys, this is what I've found:
Altering the volume as a figure by pressing F2 doesn't work (and I SOOOO wanted it to!). If I analyse the volume of a track and enable level playback, nothing alters as such. The song in question MM wants to make quieter (-3.9db in this case) instead of louder! So I raised this figure in increments until I got to +35db but it was still as quiet as it was before. To test to see if it was actually working, I made it -15bd and the song had almost dissappeared as it was so quiet. Therefore MM wants to make everything quieter and then match those, when I want them louder (everything is set to the default 89db).

My sound is all inbuilt on the motherboard so, RovingCowboy, maybe the lack of quality from a dedicated sound card COULD be the issue.

My only option it seems is to try playing around with a copy of a track using Audacity.

Yep. Use Audacity. It works. It's simple to use. You can undo if you make a mistake.
And as bgoodman4 says, you'll get hooked. I know!
