[REQ] Resume starts from the beginning of track

Post by syserss »

Hey all, apologies if this has already been posted, I searched, but wasn't sure exactly how to query for this request.

I would love the ability to always play a song from the beginning. Regardless of it's a playlist, or just the play now queue. I hate starting songs in the middle of the track regardless of how long it was playing before. It would be great if I could just say that I always want this behavior.

I don't how easy it would be to incorporate this, but it seems easier then always remembering the time stamp of where the playing song ended. Obviously it's not a feature everyone would want, do I would expect it to be a simple toggle.

Thanks, syserss

Hi,

I suppose you're saying that:
- this should only occur for music (not podcasts, movies, or audiobooks)?
- this shouldn't occur when you press Pause (it should only occur when you disconnect a headset, or stop casting a track)?

Hi Rusty,

First, just for context, I only use MMA for music, so my perspective is limited to that specific use case.

Regarding playback, my suggestion is to have the resume behavior depend on the length of the pause:
* Short breaks: Resume from the current spot. This is perfect for brief, involuntary interruptions like a dropped Bluetooth connection.
* Long breaks (> 60 seconds): Restart from the beginning. Jumping back into the middle of a track after a longer interruption (like stopping to talk to someone) can be jarring. Ideally, this time threshold would be configurable.

I rarely pause intentionally; it's almost always a disconnect. If building a duration-based rule is too complex and it just needs to be a simple toggle, I am totally fine with that. I also recognize that users listening to non-music content probably wouldn't want an auto-restart feature at all.

I hope this clarifies my thoughts. I'm happy to provide more details if needed, and thanks for building MM!

Thanks,
Syserss
